2. Rhythms and Cycles: Connecting the Pieces of Your Life
By: Janet L. Hall, CPO, CRMS, FSII

Wouldn't you agree that we all have certain rhythms in our daily
life and that we all go through many of the same stages, cycles,
and 'seasons' of life? We are continuously evolving, as is Mother
Earth.

I feel the start of Spring is one of the most beautiful stages of
evolving. Change is every where you look: Tress budding.
Flowers and plants reappearing. Animals giving birth. Birds
creating new homes. Insects emerging from their cocoons of
hibernation and transformation. Fish spawning. Reptiles shedding
their skins. Rocks and soil being turned over. The season is
changing. Mother Earth is changing and so can you!

Spring symbolizes birth, new beginnings, and starting over. It is
the revitalizing cycle of all on Mother Earth, including you. Spring
can mean a new beginning for you and an end to your clutter and
chaos if you take some action.

I hear your desire to change, I know you want to get out of the
chaotic cycle you are in, and I know you have uncertainty as to
where to start.

You know that if you could just find yourself and organize your
spaces that everything else will come together. Everything in your
life will start to fit - like pieces of a puzzle - the pieces of your life
can become connected again, forming a picture of how you want
your life to be, if you take some action, moving around the
pieces until they all fit snugly together, creating beauty, calm, and
joy.

What pieces of your puzzle are missing? What pieces of your
puzzle are you 'forcing' to fit into your life? What pieces of your
puzzle are continually becoming disconnected?

The pieces of your life that you are disconnected from can be
physical and psychological. If you feel like you are fighting an
uphill battle, could this be caused by chronic fatigue,
Fibromyalgia, depression, bipolar, manic depression,
OCD, ADD, overwhelm, lack of scheduling or a mountain of
other problems?

Reconnecting the pieces can help you restore harmony and
balance in your life.

Reconnecting with the natural world, yourself, and others can
help you see things in your surroundings differently. Causing you
to take action, such as spring cleaning or sorting through your
piles of stuff once and for all.

Let's look at how you can reconnect to nature so you can
reconnect to yourself by becoming aware of your personal
cycles and rhythms of the days, nights, and seasons?

By becoming aware of your own cycles and rhythms you can
begin to work with what you are capable of doing, when you
can, so you can begin to plan your days and nights.

Change the rhythms of your life by taking some time for yourself
and you will find you will have more energy and focus to
accomplish the things you want to do.

Go outside, by yourself. Take at least 15 minutes or more for
yourself each and everyday and choose from one of the
following:

=>Sit outside: on the porch, under a tree, by the water
Sit, listen and observe
=>Go for a walk: around the yard, down the street, in the woods
Walk, listen, and observe

Ask yourself: "What will it take to get me to take action, get
help, and get back into my own rhythm of life?"

Listen and start taking action and I guarantee the pieces of your
life will eventually start fitting together again.

I'll be waiting to hear from you and I'm here to help
in any way I can.

3. Tips for Professional Organizers

Exciting news that many of you have been waiting for for years!

I've been held to secrecy since last November and have now
been authorized to share the following information with you:

Last year I was invited, and honored, along with other "hand
picked" professional organizers, by The Organizing and
Management Institute (OMI) to sit for the first ever Board
Certification Exam for Professional Organizers.

In November I sat for my Board Certified Professional
Organizer and Certified Records Management Specialist exam.
In January I was told I passed!!!

What does this mean for you, me, and our clients?

>>OMI board certification denotes the mark of a true
professional committed to a safe and ethical practice.

>>Board Certification assists the public in identifying those
Professional Organizers and Records Managers who have met
the rigorous standards of the Institute and passed a
comprehensive certification exam.

>>Board Certification is the mark of excellence in the fields of
organizing and records management.

>>OMI certification standards, policies and procedures
represent the highest professional credentials for Professional
Organizers and Records Management Specialists.

>>OMI certification is a statement to your clients that you have a
confident, highly trained and professionally certified staff
servicing their account.

>>AND MORE!

Professional Organizing and Records Management are fields that
have become increasingly complex, surpassing the basic
functions of clearing out clutter and filing papers. As a result,
there is a growing need for some measure of competence.

In a growing industry where anyone can adopt the label of
Professional Organizer or Records Management Specialist, OMI
certification reflects a significant degree of training and expertise
in professional organizing and records management.

I strongly urge you to take some time to check out OMI at

business!

6. This month I'm doing something a little different in the Guest
Article section. I decided to do a summary of a fabulous
workshop I attended...

Last month I had the pleasure of meeting Sharon Stasney, Feng
Shui practitioner and author of several books. She presented a
workshop at the first Feng Shui conference in the northeast,
Morristown, NJ.

Sharon revealed to the audience the work of evolutionary
theorist Ervin Lazlo, whom through his observations has
identified a simple five-stage model of evolutionary change and
Sharon, using Lazlo's model, has applied Feng Shui and revealed
how our environments need to change to support each phase of
life.

Here I would like to summarize the five phases of life, written
about by Ms. Stasney in her article, The Human Chrysalis,
( http://www.catalystmagazine.net/issue_0401.html  ) and heard in
her workshop:

Phase One: The Stable Life- Everything seems to be going
along fine, you're stable, in balance. When this Phase nears the
end you'll begin to sense that your life as it is no longer fits and
you might experience loss of interest in things or relationships that
were once important. The longer this feeling persists, the more
disconnected from others you feel.

Sharon suggests that you remove items that no longer feel like
you. Put away photos of your old self and create a quiet space.
Shift to earth tones and create more Yang in your spaces.

Phase Two: The Dissolving Identity-Change becomes real, but
usually scary. You hesitate to lose what's known, with no
promise for the future.

Sharon suggests clearing out the clutter and get boxes or piles of
paper off the floors. Let as much fresh air and daylight into your
spaces. Cool colors, such as greens, blues, and violets, will aid in
releasing.

Phase Three: In the Between-Often feel dead to the world and
withdraw both physically and emotionally. You may need to
sleep a lot and everything takes more time to do than it did
before.

Sharon suggests you create a "womb room" for yourself. A place
where you can crash, hole up and retreat from the world. Black
is the color of choice.

Phase Four: Birth of the New-Energy starts to move again. You
may feel awkward, stiff, and unresponsive to your desires. You
want to do something, take action, change your life, but you're
not sure what to do. The key is to do something, anything.

Sharon suggests hitting the paint store for colors you never
considered before. Buy new sheets or furniture, and travel.
Reconnect with the world outside.

Phase Five: Living the New-A time of joy and tremendous
creative expression! You'll feel in sync with everything and
everyone around you.

Sharon suggests balancing and creating the right amount of Yin
and Yang in your spaces. Look for and make decisions based
on what will support and balance the new you. This stage
becomes your new Phase one and you start all over again.

What Phase are you in? Please take a second and go to
http://www.overhall.com/phrase_survey.htm to take our quick
three click survey. The results will be posted in the next issue of
OverHall IT!
