1. Welcome and Happenings
===========================================

A Special welcome to all those from the Internet Marketing
SuperConference held in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago.
Wasn't that an impressive yet grueling four days? To all of
you that presented and worked the SuperConference, a BIG
thank you from me to you. I learned SO much and am
starting to implement many of the things I learned.

I was thrilled to also meet two people that I talk about in this
newsletter, Joan Stewart and Jeff Mayer. It was wonderful
meeting them both and having the ability to actually sit down
with them and have a face-to-face conversation.

More good news from my homefront: I officially became a
Certified Pyramid Feng Shui Practitioner the day before I
had to leave for Las Vegas. I cried with joy and was thankful
I had completed all my requirements before leaving town.

This month I bring to all of you what I hope you find to be an
interesting issue, your bathroom. We all have one (I think)
and use one (I think), although here in these parts little boys
and men tend to use the great outdoors whenever possible
<g>!
How about where you live?

BEFORE you move on I would like to ask you a favor. Could
you please take a few minutes now or later today and
answer the following questions, not just for me but also for
yourself. Then send me your answers at
mailto:janet@overhall.com?subject=challanges

1.What are your current organizing challenges?
2. What do you want to accomplish and how do you plan to
do it, regarding those challenges?
3. What are your current computer challenges?
4. What do you want to accomplish and how do you plan to
do it, regarding those challenges?
5. What is your SINGLE biggest challenge at this time?
6. What are some of your most important goals and
objectives in the next few months or years?
7. How can I help you?

One last question: How many of you are AOL users and
would like me to include AOL clickable links?

Thanks for your help and each person that I hear from will
receive a little surprise thank you gift for their time and
answers.

Well, on to some organizing, space clearing, and Feng Shui.
And don't forget to check out this months Computer Clutter
Column.

2. Is Your Bathroom Going Down the Drain?
By: Janet L. Hall
===========================================

As you and I know, most bathrooms have limited space
and storage. Many of them are crammed with too much
stuff: a lotion or potion you used once, the shampoo and
conditioner samples collected while on travel, medicines
or other items used once or never finished using, towels
that have seen their day, and reading material and even
mail that just piles up and piles up, all the while
collecting dust and germs.

Your bathroom is a room in which you and others use on
a daily basis. The most private area in your home, yet a
busy room in which activities, such as baths, showers,
brushing hair and teeth, shaving, and using the toilet are
usually performed by yourself FOR yourself. Yet for
some it’s a place of refuge, hiding from the world, the
family, reading or just sitting on the "throne," thinking,
planning, or daydreaming. Your bathroom can be a place
of solitude where you can float away in a sea of bubbles;
meditating, planning, creating, listening to music, while
candlelight is reflected in the mirror dancing around the
room.

We store and keep all kinds of things in our bathrooms:
from linens to tub toys, lotions to medicines, and even
books and magazines. Oils, candles, matches, and lets
not forget the toilet paper. Unless you’ve remodeled or
designed your own bathroom-the standard bathroom in a
standard home usually only comes equipped with a small
medicine cabinet and maybe under the sink storage and
many don’t even provide that essential storage space.

Being disorganized or not having enough storage in your
bathroom can literally drain you of energy and patience
in the morning, evening, or anytime you enter into this
private space.

Below I've listed 10 tips on how you can gain more
storage (for additional storage tips please see end of article).

First let's take a look at what you might be able to TOSS
or Let Go
:

>>Make-up, hair products, lotions and medicines lose
their "power" over time. So toss out those you haven’t
used or seen in years. Some can contract bacteria and
could be dangerous.

>>Let go of seldom used nail polish and eye shadows.

>>Check expiration dates. If expired dispose of safely
and properly. Flush unused medicine down the toilet
(make sure it went DOWN in case you have little ones
wandering around) and break up containers that were
prescription, especially if they had a refill on label.

>>Look for products that have dried up or evaporated.

>> If you travel pre pack any duplicates in your suitcase.

>>Rusty razors, scissors or anything else that has become
rusty-OUT.

10 Tools to Help You Gain More Storage:

1. Wall mounted cabinets
2. Carts on wheels
3. Hooks on back of door
4. Shower caddies
5. Dispensers
6. Coat rack – great for hanging towels and robes on
7. Cut and install straight magnet inside medicine cabinet
to hold tweezers, scissors, or other metal items
8. Small dishpans or crates
9. Mesh bags
10. Wall mount hair dryer and curling iron

Benefits of an Organized Bathroom:

>>Your money will stop going down the drain when you
know what you have on hand because you won’t go out
and buy duplicates.

>>You’ll be less stressed, especially in the morning
because you’ll know where everything is.

>>Clean up will be a snap with everything contained.

3. Space Clearing Tip
===========================================

In her book, "Sacred Space: Clearing and Enhancing the
Energy of Your Home," Denise Linn has this to say about
Bathrooms:

"Your bathroom can symbolize release and letting go of what you don't need in your life and it also represents cleansing and renewal. A bathroom can be symbolic of letting go of the old and embracing the new. If you have difficulty in letting go of things that you don't use anymore and letting go of relationships that aren't supportive, then go through your bathroom and clean the cupboards. Get rid of anything in your bathroom that you don't need. This can create a template of releasing things from your life that are not serving your best interests. If you feel that your life is
stagnant and needs renewal, then clean your bathroom.
The simple act of cleaning it generates a template of renewal and purification in your life."

4. Ask the OverHaller
===========================================

Dear OverHaller,
I read the instructions on your website for doing laundry and
had to laugh. With three small children, you must be kidding!
Wash laundry by the person?! Post schedules? Nobody in
the house can help with the laundry! Here is a much better
solution for your readers with jobs and small children: Install
a large shelf over the washer and dryer. Buy a plastic or
wooden crate for each member of the household, plus one
that says "miscellaneous" (for weird stuff that ends up in the
laundry. Only go through that one when it fills up.) Label
each crate with the person's name, and every time you finish
a dryer load, sort items directly from the dryer into the crates.
When a crate fills up, it's time for that individual to put away
their clothes. And even though you still end up putting away
the smaller children's things for them, it's still a lot easier
than the other way. Also, you don't ever accumulate
the laundry piles on the bed, on the couch, floor - wherever
they get left whenever you get interrupted and have to leave
it. I have ADD and my two older children also have it, so for
years my house was constantly in disarray and laundry was
the biggest culprit! This is the only solution I have ever had
that worked.
I hope you pass this on to your readers.
Sincerely, Amber King

Dear Amber,
Done! Readers, what do you think?
This article is full of suggestions and ideas. The thought is
to take what will work for you and leave the rest. From my
own experience with now two grown children and little
grandchildren, even at the tender age of three, LOVED to
help with laundry. I believe it's how one approaches a task
with ones children will be the deciding factor if it will work for
you or be MORE work for you. Just the other day, I believe it
was Oprah, one of her guests said that EVERY child should
be able to and SHOULD do their own laundry by the age of
ten. Remember, if you are a parent then you are the
teacher. Thanks Amber. I'm sure some of our readers
will try your great solution to a never-ending task.

5. Computer Clutter
===========================================

One rotten apple spoils the barrel and one email computer
virus can ruin your computer!

For those of you that have been with me for awhile you
might recall reading my article, Protect and Secure Your
Computer Life (http://overhall.com/overhall_it_issue11.htm )
While still valuable information I would like to share with you
one of the things I learned during the SuperConference
regarding security of your computer. David DaVinci of
Cyber Security spoke to the audience about the myth that
your anti-virus program will protect you completely. It
WON'T. Outlook Express, Outlook and several other email
programs have a bug in their operating system and
sometimes with just ONE click on the email (you don't even
have to open it or the attachment) your computer can
become infected if that email had a virus.

David also pointed out that your operating system, Explorer
and Media Player also contain bugs, or cliches if you will,
that allow viruses or hackers to get to you computer through
them. BUT he has found the solution to those problems!
Here's just a few of the things his product can teach you:
1) A thorough understanding of the exact actions to take in
order to eliminate EVERY major security/privacy threat you
face from now on!
2) How to choose the right software at a fair price -- many of
them are free and offer unlimited upgrades at zero cost!
3) Clear and concise explanations (without the techno
jargon) on how to use security software, so you can toss
away those "User's Manuals"!!
4) How To Stop Hackers Before They Can Get In
5) How To Prevent Viruses From Infecting Your Files
6) How To Completely Erase Your Tracks On The Net
PLUS he just keeps on giving with so many BONUSES,
such as:
How To Halt Online Credit Card Theft
How To Make The Internet Safe For Kids

Please take the time today to check out his solutions and
information.
Let me know what you think.

7. Products, Books, and Web Site Reviews
===========================================

Books:
I finally meet Jeff Mayer at the SuperConference. Many
organizers might recall reading about Jeff as one of the first
organizers around and became famous for his $500 to clean off your desk! Now that's amazing! He has worked with some pretty BIG people and now he has written MANY
ebooks that will help you with your challenges.

Jeffrey J. Mayer, president of Succeeding In Business, and
author of many books, has an E-Book, "Winning the Fight
Between You and Your Desk," that I highly recommend.
This inexpensive ebook is filled with humor; Are you a
Pilamaniac? to step-by-step instructions on Creating Master
Lists, Master Files, and Your Master File Drawer. I urge you
all to download this inexpensive but very informative ebook
at:

And Jeff just introduced two more fabulous ebooks:
Setting and Achieving Your Goals and Taking Control of
Your Workday.

Your Goals is loaded with setting specific and meaningful
goals, mapping them out and putting them on your to-do list
(something I teach all my clients). Heck he even found a
software program that helps you do your mapping for your
business or personal life.

8. Jokes, Quotes, and Anecdotes
===========================================

>>After seven years of marriage, I'm sure of two things --
first, never wallpaper together, and second, you'll need two
bathrooms . . . both for her. The rest is a mystery, but a
mystery I love to be involved in.
--Dennis Miller

>>A hot bath! I cry, as I sit down in it! Again as I lie flat, a hot
bath! How exquisite a pleasure, how luxurious, fervid and
flagrant a consolation for the rigors, the austerities, the
renunciation of the day.
--Rose Macaulay

>>BATH, n. A kind of mystic ceremony substituted for
religious worship, with what spiritual efficacy has not been
determined.
--Ambrose Bierce

>>Bath twice a day to be really clean, once a day to be
passably clean, once a week to avoid being a public
menace.
--Anthony Burgess

>>People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither
does bathing -- that's why we recommend it daily.
--Zig Ziglar

9. Tips for Professional Organizers
===========================================

Do you know what your clients challenges REALLY are?
Did you notice in the welcome of this newsletter how I asked
specific questions to find out what my readers challenges,
objectives, goals, and here is the important part, how I could
help them? If you haven't been in touch with past clients
lately you need to create a letter, an email or phone them
and discover their challenges and how you might be able to
help them. It might mean just recommending a product or
getting additional work. Try it and PLEASE let me know how
it works for you.
