Janet's Feng Shui Credentials: Certified Feng Shui Practitioner – 2002 * Professional Training: FSIA, FSII - 2002-present * Past President (2003-2005), Board Member, Certified Member of FSII - 2004-present * Graduate, Faculty Member & Mentor of FSIA - 2002-present * Mentors & Teaches: Nancilee Wydra, Feng Shui Master

As a certified Pyramid Feng Shui Practitioner I combine many disciplines of ancient wisdoms, modern research, intuition, and using all my senses as my tools to look at not just where things are placed in your space BUT at your indoor and outdoor environments and how YOU relate to and use those spaces to bring about the change in you and in your environment that you've been dreaming for.

What is Feng Shui?

Ancient Feng Shui is described as "the Chinese art of placement". Literally translated Feng Shui means Wind Water and the story goes that back in the beginning (about 2,500 to 6,000 years ago) the farmers, before settling, would determine how the winds blew, the direction and what if any protection might be in the area and where water and/or sources of water were located. Once satisfied with the correct balance of wind, protection, water and other resources needed to survive they would settle down. As you can see placement was very important and still is, just not as "strict" for us as it was then. Why? Because things - people and place -  change and evolve.

In Pyramid Feng Shui, what I practice and am certified in, we first approach the person's desires or "wishes" for their life and then create the support they need to obtain those wishes through recommendations of the use of:

  • Color
  • Shapes
  • Textures
  • Sounds
  • Movement
  • Placement
  • Scent

Feng Shui is ...

  • NOT Religion - although Ancient Feng Shui shares roots with three main Chinese philosophies/religions: Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism
  • NOT Magic - although seems magical as it draws on the laws of nature and science. It’s not just about hanging wind chimes, or performing rituals
  • NOT Fad - has lasted to long to be a fad;  believed to come about in 4000 BC and/or known to be at least 2,600 yrs old
  • NOT Decorating - although it seems to have some cross-over, yet we give the client what they need, not want they think they need or want, therefore connecting person to place and place to person. When this is done correctly it then becomes design and art.
  • NOT Superstition
  • NOT Psychology - although it can take into consideration a person’s belief systems along with learned and emotional responses to both negative and positive experiences related to place. Symbolism (Carl Jung) can come into play, such as viewing your current artwork.
  • NOT Spiritual - although many people that have feng shui or an interest in feng shui are on a spiritual path or looking for "something".

Schools of Feng Shui:

  • Form - 1st school of feng shui. Reads the lay of the land: climate, contour, shape. Combination of meteorology, geography, and geology. Where are the mountains and water? Ideal land site looks like an armchair: highest mountain (Black Tortoise) in rear, Right protected by smaller hills (Green Dragon), left by smallest hills and trees (White Tiger), and front open view (Red Phoenix) Can’t all live in armchair position; however you can mimic/make adjustments.
  • Compass - Developed as Chinese moved away from mountains. Importance on directions, especially facing of door, bed, stove, and back door, calculates birth date and time and have Heaven Luck (horoscope), Man Luck (own responsibility) and Earth Luck (directing and accumulating chi). Introduced yin/yang theory, chi and five elements.  Relies on very precise calculations and measurements of direction. The prime tool used in this school is a Feng Shui Compass or lo p'an.
  • Black Sect, also known as Black Hat, BHS and BTB -  1st to come to America by Professor Lin Yun, known as Grandmaster Lin Yun. Weaves combination of traditional feng shui, Lin Yun’s energy theories and Chinese folklore.
  • Pyramid -Developed by Nancilee Wydra, degrees in social work and interior design and has studied city planning saw a ‘leg missing from the foundation of the human experience’. Mind/Body/Spirit, the leg was PLACE – messages of the physical environment that shapes one’s life experience. Interprets concepts through a contemporary Western point of view, with the use of scientific and biological relationships. "Pyramid Feng Shui is a contemporary western adaptation of ancient Chinese Feng Shui, integrating biology, psychology, cultural anthropology, physics and other environmental considerations to assess how an individual experiences their environment.  Recommendations are substantiated using information from these social and scientific fields.  Pyramid Feng Shui also places the individual at the center of the process by using a customized approach that takes into account the culture, beliefs, and design preferences of the client." -- Source: FSII

We create the space that will support the persons intentions and wishes. For instance, if you have a space in which you want to relax or meditate at the end of day and that space has an abundance of the Fire Element then you have a space in which you can't achieve your intention of how you want to use the space and a space that does not support you, your intentions or wishes, because the Fire Element is a representation of Action, Reaction and Interaction. In Pyramid Feng Shui we identify and use our sensorial senses to identify elements, shapes, colors, textures, smells, sounds, and add, move or remove items in the space to create and help manifest/support your intentions and desires.

Why Get Feng Shui?

Health Providers

One of my specialties is waiting rooms and areas for traditional health providers or holistic providers. Your waiting area can reflect you and your practice and is a place your client should be able to feel safe and healthy. A dead plant sitting in the waiting room doesn't give much credit to the provider or healer, now does it?

"Janet came into my family’s life at one of its’ lowest points, one of my sons was in desperate need of help and in many ways and our family was feeling the pressure.  Our home was “our prison”, Janet came in and reviewed everything from color, furniture style, texture and aroma and provided recommendations for each room...  The first room done was my son’s bedroom and the difference it made was incredible, he actually slept through the night for the first time in 4 years.  I quickly implemented as many of her recommendations as I could, new flooring, new furniture, object placement and aromas throughout the entire house and what a difference it has made in all of us.  Our home is now peaceful, fun and comforting…I highly recommend Janet’s services as a Feng Shui Consultant and I look forward to working with her in her other endeavors as well."

Schools and Classrooms

There have been many case studies on the effects of desk placement, lighting, color, and even aromas that affect how a child will not only respond, yet behave, learn and absorb materials being taught in the classroom. Beneficial to all, especially children with challenges, such as ADD....

And on Oprah's special, American Schools in Crisis:

Bill and Melinda [Gates] point to an obsolete education—built for the industrial age, not the digital age—as a keystone to the problem. The Gates Foundation pointedly asks, "What good is it for kids to graduate in 2006 from a school system that was designed for 1956?"

In this out-of-date structure, Bill says that some students do not value their own education. "Millions of kids are dropping out," Bill says. "Of minorities, half drop out. Overall it's about a third." http://www.oprah.com/tows/slide/200604/20060411/slide_20060411_284_102.jhtml

Did you see those structures?

I believe that if we could feng shui these schools, meaning update the spaces, repairs, particular colors (paint), shapes, placement, sounds, scents, landscape and how one moves and "connects" to place and if we could also update the surrounding areas and homes of each student then equality would start to evolve and change for the good would begin to finally take place.

Come on Ty .... Let's do it together! Contact Ty Pennington for me here and let him know we need to work together on the inner city schools.

Using Your Senses

In Pyramid Feng Shui we like to invoke all your senses in your places:

Sound

While we're in the womb we hear our mothers heartbeat and then lullabies; as children we learn through song and instruments; as teenagers and young adults, we have our favorite love songs, break-up songs, school songs, and favorite musical groups/bands. We are exposed to commercial jingles, marching bands, work songs, wedding music, funeral music, holiday music, religious music and patriotic tunes. Each one having their own resonance, rhythm, melody, harmony, pitch, timbre and energy. Music can make us happy or sad, cry, dance with joy, and make our blood pressure go high or low.

Outdoors we are exposed to traffic sounds: cars and trucks speeding by, horns blowing, planes flying overhead, trains chugging down the tracks, sirens from police, fire or ambulances and nature sounds: birds chirping, leaves rustling in the breeze, waves hitting the shore, water bubbling down a stream, a dog barking, a horse whining, or an insect buzzing by. Most might not even be aware of these sounds or these sounds might be what some call noise.

Sound, it's all around you!

How You Hear:

What we call "sound" is really an onrushing, cresting, and withdrawing wave of air molecules that begins with the movement of any object, however large or small, and ripples out in all directions. First something has to move -- a tractor, a cricket's wings -- that shakes the air molecules all around it, then the molecules next to them begin trembling, too, and so on. Waves of sound roll like tides to our ears, where they make the eardrum vibrate; this in turn moves three colorfully named bones (the hammer, the anvil, and the stirrup), the tiniest bones in the body.[6]

Certain sounds are related to the feng shui elements, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal. Please click feng shui elements for a complete list of the element's associations of sound.

"The human body is a bio-electrical system which can be altered, strengthened, and/or balanced through the use of sound." -- Ted Andrews, author of The Healer's Manual

Color

Some 2,500 years ago, Pythagoras applied color light therapeutically and `color halls' were used for healing in ancient Egypt, China and India. The Ayurvedic texts of ancient India recount the Gods using colored light to heal the body and to inject life force into food and water. [7]

Colors are frequency wavelengths. When you find yourself drawn to a color then that's the color - energy vibration - your body needs, which can change from hour to hour and day to day.

11 ways to use color to get your energy moving:

  1. food

  2. body color (jewelry, hair)

  3. clothing

  4. looking at color

  5. color breathing

  6. painting

  7. furniture/fabrics

  8. chakra color balancing

  9. color meditation

  10. feng shui spaces

  11. colored water

Certain colors are related to the feng shui elements, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal. Please click feng shui elements for a complete list of the element's associations of color.

Aromatherapy

Smells (odors) fall into seven categories: mint (peppermint), floral (roses), ethereal (pears), musky (musk), resinous (camphor), foul (rotten eggs), and acrid (vinegar). Smell was the first of our senses.

Aromatic plants have been used by humankind since the drawn of history. There is evidence that over some 4,000 years ago, the Ancient Sumerians made use of scented herbs such as cypress and myrrh, while in the 1870's George Ebers discovered a 21-metre (70-foot) scroll of papyrus that listed over 850 Ancient Egyptian botanical remedies, dating from about 1500 B.C. [8]

According to research, René-Maurice Gattefossé is credited with coining the term aromatherapy in the early 1900's.

Aromatherapy is used to treat everything from the common cold to central nervous system disorders and diseases. Many people rely on Aromatherapy to relieve symptoms of common physical problems as well as emotional and mental disorders such as anxiety and depression. Along with their antibacterial and antiviral properties, many essential oils also help eliminate stress, increase energy, enhance memory and stimulate natural healing. http://www.therapyinfo.org/aromatherapy.asp

Certain smells are related to the feng shui elements, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal. Please click feng shui elements for a complete list of the element's associations of smell.
