1. Welcome Message
A big thanks to all of you who came out to my seminars in
February. It was great to speak with and meet some of you.
If you missed the seminars, I have them available on audio
tape, and plans are in the works for an April/May tour to AZ
and TX. For more information, please see the Events
section.
Welcome and thank you to all new subscribers. This year
we have been working on * OverHalling * the spiritual area of
ones life in the Balance issue. (Last year we worked on the
health and financial area, see back issues at
http://www.overhall.com/issues_and_articles.htm
) In the
Computer issue, which comes out around the middle of the
month, we are starting to work on * OverHalling * your
computer skills and web site.
Last Balance issue (http://www.overhall.com/jan3101.htm
I
spoke about Dumping Your Brain Clutter and received
several emails and phone calls telling me, * that’s exactly
what they needed to read ,* * how did I know, *and one such
caller was able to attend the seminar in Charlotte; by the
way Barbara, thank you for the wonderful card! And thanks
to everyone else for your kind words of support.
While on tour, the Universe spoiled Paula and me with
beautiful sunsets (one especially memorable in the Smokey
Mountains), the sun's rays splashing over the majestic
mountains, lakes and rock beds, and other unexpected
scenic surprises. She also blessed us with things we asked
for; * Ask and ye shall receive * became our mantra. A
certain café, a favorite food, a wonderful second home to
stay in while traveling, and even live music!
Okay, ready to start "OverHalling"?

2. Awakening
By: Janet L. Hall
Waking up to chaos and clutter can instantly drain you of
your energy and put your spirit in a foul mood, even causing
you to become depressed.
As a professional organizer, I’m often asked, * Where do I
start? * I always suggest one of two areas, your bedroom or
your important home or office files.
Many have disagreed, stating that they would prefer to start
with a room that others may see when visiting.
But I’m here to tell you, don’t worry about those areas… yet.
My saying is, * you can drop by anytime to visit me but if you
want to visit my house to see how clean it is, make an
appointment! * (there is a difference between clean, neat,
and organized, but that’s another article <g>).
Organizing and cleaning those areas will only make your
Spirit soar temporarily. Those areas will NOT feed your
Spirit in the way it needs to be feed in the morning, BEFORE
you get out of bed! (unless you sleep in one of those areas
<g>).
So why not start decluttering and * OverHalling * the room in
which you awake every morning? Take care of you boudoir
first! It’s the first room you see in the morning and the last
room you see at night.
Your bedroom can set the stage for your day and how your
Spirit will feel, react, and cope throughout the rest of the day.
EDITORS TIP: After reading this article, place it next to your
bed with a pencil and before you get out of bed reread and
answer the following:
Now, look around you. What do you see? Chaos and clutter
or calm and organization?
What beauty can a new morning bring you? What is your
vision of your day?
Listen. What do you hear? Bickering, * Can’t find….*, or
laughter and a birds song?
Start this new day by listening to nature outside your
window. Sing, whistle, hum, or play music that lifts your
spirit and refreshes. (I sing to myself, * You’ve got to wake
up every morning with a smile on your face and show the
world all the love in your heart…Carole King)
What do you smell? Dirty socks, moldy * stuff * or a fresh
cut lawn, sun dried sheets, or the fragrance of flowers?
Inhale and infuse yourself with power for the day with fresh
clean scents around you. A scented candle, fresh flowers on
your nightstand, scented soaps, lotions, or oils.
What do you feel? Overwhelmed, depressed, drained, or
rejuvenated and renewed?
Renew and elevate your Spirit by embracing the day upon
waking, take a big stretch, read an affirmation, your spiritual
book, or a daily inspiration. Pray or meditate.
Write down what you would like to see, hear, smell, and feel
when you first awake. What do you have to do to feed your
senses and your Spirit?
When you start clearing the clutter out of your senses, you
will begin to become open and aware to receiving those
things that can feed your body, soul, and spirit.
If you feed your spirit and your mind upon waking, you’ll day
will run smoother. You’ll become more aware of what’s
going on around you and within you.
Alan Cohen, author of A Deep Breath of Life, writes in one of
his daily inspirations for heart-centered living:
*…Each day is like a life unto itself, and so the first minutes
of each day are the formative minutes. We must take
special care to sound the keynote that will set the tone for
our entire day. How do you begin your day? Do you spend
it with God, in peace, in attunement with yourself? Or do
you pop out of bed and immediately dive into the busy-ness
of the day, postponing your soul’s needs in favor of lesser
activities? *
He goes on to say, * Take at least the first 20 minutes of
your day to meditate, pray, read an inspiring book, practice
yoga or tai chi, walk in the woods, sing, dance, or engage in
any practice that links you to a higher power. Establish your
center, and the day that follows will reflect clarity, strength,
and love. Any time you spend with Spirit will be returned
throughout the day. Even a few seconds of closing your
eyes and remembering the presence of love will make a big
difference. At the end of your day, be with God before
entering sleep. The formative minutes will build the
consciousness that makes a productive life. *
If you’d like to learn to mediate or need help in this area,
John Edward, author of Understanding Your Angels and
Meeting Your Guides, has a wonderful audio tape with some
amazing exercises.
I love the mediating exercise in which Mr. Edwards teaches;
how to * breath in Universal positive energy and force out
any negative energy you are holding in your body. Giving
your body permission to surrender your negative energy.
I’d like to give you permission to rid yourself of all the
negative clutter and stuff in your bedroom.
If something reminds you of how much weight you’ve
gained, get rid of it!
If something makes you sad or unhappy, get rid of it!
If something brings back bad memories, get rid of it!
If something makes you feel dated, get rid of it!
If something is broken (you’ll never use it again or will cost
more to fix then replace), or irreparable, get rid of it!
If something from your past would embarrass your loved
ones after you gone, get rid of it!
If something doesn’t mean anything to you any longer, get
rid of it!
Wall by wall, inch by inch, surface area by surface area, all
the clutter and stuff that you’ve STUFFED into the one place
you should be able to go to to relax, reflect, make love,
sleep, and meet your Spirit in the morning can be sorted
through using my TEASER technique. (For a FREE copy of
my TEASER, click: mailto:teaser@sendfree.com?subject=web
) This is
an autoresponder; you will receive the TEASER via email
within seconds of hitting the send key.
Nine Additional Steps to Get Started:
1. Decide how much time you have or are willing to
dedicate to creating your own personal paradise.
2. Set a timer for the length of time you have set aside to
declutter.
3. Take the phone off the hook.
4. Turn off the computer and TV.
5. Don’t answer the door.
6. If you have children, make sure they have an activity to
do or have someone watch over or play with them (or maybe
they can help <g>).
7. Stay focused by NOT leaving the room.
8. Do NOT bring anything else into the room you’re
decluttering that doesn’t belong there.
9. Do NOT run out and buy storage items until AFTER you
have sorted through your stuff!
Remember it’s not about being neat; anyone can straighten
or tidy up. It’s about utilizing your bedroom and space for
what it’s meant to do – a place to rest the soul and Spirit.

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life or life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of
Your existence:
The bliss of growth;
The glory of action;
The splendor of achievement;
For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision;
But today, well lived, makes every
Yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
--Kalidasa (Translated from the Sanskrit)
Look for ways the Universe spoils you today and everyday.

3. OverHall IT! Tip of the Month
A participant of a clutter board had stated she went grocery-
shopping EVERYDAY! EEK! Not only is she wasting
precious time but probably wasting money. My tip to her
was to try and go shopping ONLY on paydays, to download
a FREE copy of my master grocery list, make any personal
adjustments, and print out enough copies for the year. Post
this on your frig or inside a cupboard. Let everyone in the
household aware of the list and to circle items that are low
(you must define low to them) or have run out of. For a
FREE copy of my master grocery list click

I’d like this section to be yours! If you have a tip
that you'd like to share, please email it to,
mailto:janet@overhall.com?subject=Tip
I’d love to hear from you so we can all learn something new!

4. Personal Eco-Systems (tm): Daily Direction
by: Dr. Philip E. Humbert
This is the third in a series of articles on developing
your Personal Eco-System(tm). As I've written before, we
live and work within patterns and habits that can be
viewed as an "eco-system". The system is made up of our
physical environment (our homes and offices), the people
around us (friends, family and associates), and the
choices we make.
You can read the previous articles, or any of last year's
TIP's, by visiting the archive at:
http://www.philiphumbert.com/tips-archive/archive.cgi
or
<a href="http://www.philiphumbert.com/tips-archive/archive.cgi">Click</a>
There are two vital things to understand about Personal
Eco-Systems (tm). The first is that they influence what, and
how much, we produce, and secondly, that we can
intentionally create systems that help us achieve our goals.
Let me explain. Everyone remembers trying to do a
familiar activity in a situation where we just can't
perform. A common example is trying to read in a noisy
waiting room. Another example might be trying to sink a
short putt to win a golf tournament. In that environment
and under those conditions, even simple activities can be
almost impossible.
Similarly, we are all familiar with creating a specific
environment to encourage our success. We have all planned
a romantic dinner where we paid attention to every detail,
including the candles, the type of wine, and the music on
the stereo. We were consciously creating an "eco-system"
that would support our goals.
We all live in complex Personal Eco-Systems(tm) every day.
The distinction is that most of us live in systems that
have evolved by accident, over time. We work in an office
with old equipment. We are surrounded by co-workers who
just happened to be there. Our daily routines and
schedules have evolved based on convenience,
coincidence, and luck.
But highly successful people don't let that happen. They
consciously create a precise environment that supports
them in reaching their most important goals.
Unusually productive people care about the music on the
stereo and they choose the tempo, rhythm and volume that
keeps them "humming" all day long. They choose the color
of their office, control the temperature, and turn the
phone off when they need to concentrate, or during
important meetings. They know the value of controlling
their Personal Eco-System(tm).
An essential element in launching your Personal Eco-
System (tm) is getting the day off to a great start. Remember
the law of physics that an object set in motion tends to
remain in motion? Something similar happens each morning.
If we start off stressed, or "under the gun", we tend to
remain that way. If we begin by being hassled on the
freeway, being late for a meeting, worried about
childcare, or distracted by the news, our day tends to
continue with that same "flavor" to it. Don't do that!
Highly successful people know the value of controlling
their "daily direction". They know that starting the
day with some inspirational reading, or vibrant music, or
stimulating conversation, will tend to invigorate the
entire day. That's why every motivational speaker
recommends listening to tapes in the morning, rather than
the bad news on TV.
>From Napoleon Hill over 70 years ago, to Tony Robbins
and Marianne Williamson, the recommendation to start your day on purpose is
universal. Set your daily direction.
Control your trajectory early in the morning, and you will
tend to stay on course all day long.
And here's a vital point: Throughout the day, reinforce
your choices. Instead of rushing through lunch, take a
nap, read 10 pages in your favorite book, or jot a note to
a friend. Do something that represents your highest
values and your most important priorities. On your coffee
breaks, and over dinner, create a Personal Eco-System (tm)
that reminds you that you are in control, that you live
and work in a wonderful environment, filled with beauty,
peace, inspiration and hope.
We can control the direction of our days, but most of us
forget that and fail to use our personal power. We drift,
we let the phone interrupt us, we get up 10 minutes late
and end up running all day long. Use your power! Design
the day that suits you, that feels "just right" and
encourages you all day long. Highly successful people
choose their Daily Direction. Starting tomorrow, use your
personal power to design and control your Personal Eco-
System™.

Dear Janet,
The tickler is working well. I sometimes forget to check it, but
it is the perfect place for me to put all of the things that will
be needed in the future and I'm bound to lose otherwise. It
has worked great for directions to birthday parties. Those
were forever getting lost before the tickler.
Thanks,

6. Jokes, Quotes, and Anecdotes
>>"Today, look upon your home through the eyes of love.
Walk around and offer thanks for the walls and roof that
safely enclose you and yours. Pause to consider all those
who have lost their homes. Be grateful for the home you
have and know that all you have is all you truly need."

>>The things of every day are all so sweet –
The morning meadows wet with dew,
The dance of daisies in the noon; the blue
Of far-off hills where twilight shadows lie;
The night, with all its tender mystery of sound
And silence, and God’s starry sky;
Oh, life – the whole of life – is far too fleet,
The things of every day are all so sweet.
--Alice E. Allen
>>Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the
year.
--Ralph Waldo Emerson
>>The following was found in Chapter V of Samuel Smiles
book, Thrift, published in 1875:
* The words * Waste not, want not, * carved in stone over Sir
Walter Scott’s kitchen fireplace at Abbottsford, expresses in
a few words the secret of Order in the midst of abundance.
Order is most useful in the management of everything,--of a
household, of a business, of a manufactory, of an army. Its
maxim is – A place for everything, and everything in its
place. Order is wealth; for, whoever properly regulates the
use of his income, almost doubles his resources. Disorderly
persons are rarely rich; and orderly persons are rarely poor
Order is the best manager of Time; for unless work is
properly arranged, Time is lost; and, once lost, it is gone
forever. Order illustrates many important subjects. Thus,
obedience to the moral and natural law, is order. Respect
for ourselves and our neighbors, is order. Virtue is order.
The world began with order. Chaos prevailed, before the
establishment of order. *
