Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a Professional Organizer?

A: We are people who provide information, products, and assistance to help others get organized.

Q: How can I find a Professional Organizer in my area?

A: You can check out our directory, call The International Association of Professional Organizers (212-920-1440 www.organizingtheworld.org ) or check out The Organizers Web Ring or Organize Your World to locate a Professional Organizer in your area.

Q: What type of organizing do you specialize in?

A: My specialty is office, home, and computer clutter. Many of my clients have home-based businesses.

Q: Do you sell products, services, or seminars?

A: Products: I have two booklets I've written, "The little Red WHO, WHEN, and WHERE Home Management Booklet" (for home managers), and "The little Green WHO, WHEN, and WHERE Office Management  Booklet".

E-Books of  Secrets of a Professional Organizer and How-To Become One, Get Honest ABout Your Bedroom Clutter and Finally Get Organized, How to Clean and Organize Your Computer, and 70 Tips to Get Your Children Organized Before and After School.

I also have audio tapes from my teleclasses, a Tickler File, and a FREE e-zine

Services: Besides consulting and "overhalling" I provide workshops/seminars, teleclasses, coaching, time management, professional speaking, organizing by phone, and I'm a freelance writer.

Q: Have you written a book(s)? If so, what is the title(s)?

A: Yes, see above, and I'm working on two, and always writing, clipping, and compiling material for others.

Q: Do you publish a newsletter? If so, is it a print newsletter, or an e-zine? Is it free, or is there a charge?

A: I have a FREE e-zine, OverHall IT!

Q: Who is your primary target audience?

A: First are business owners and second are homeowners. I also work with senior citizens and realtors.

Q:  How do I select an Organizer?

A: Ask how long they have been in business, if their certified, what type of education and experience they have, their area(s) of expertise and references you can contact.

Q:  What can an Organizer do for me?

A:  A Professional Organizer can provide ideas, information, structure, solutions, and systems which could increase productivity, reduce stress, and lead to more control over time, space, and activities.

Q: I have a knack for organizing, how can I become a Professional Organizer?

A:  Get my  E-Book, Secrets of a Professional Organizer and How-To Become One or The Wizard's Professional Organizers Systems. I also offer phone coaching. Research, Research, Read, Read.

Q:  "Can I make enough money as a Professional Organizer to live on?

A: Not at first, so it is a good idea to keep your job and do professional organizing on the side until you get established OR have someone to help support you financially (I have my husband; however, he will not pay OverHall bills...he will give me a loan if needed :-) One of the things I found that is starting to be profitable is to offer products and teleclasses, especially if you can develop your own techniques, mine is the "5 W's of Organizing, a TEASER, and a TICKLE" and my little booklets. I feel, like any new business, it takes several years to get established.

Q: Do I have to take a test to become a Professional Organizer?

A: No

Q: Do I have to join an Association?

A: No
