When You Wish Upon a Star…
By: Janet Hall
Many forty plus year olds might recall sitting in front of their TV
every Sunday night around 7 PM watching Disney and one of
the first Disney songs they might recall is “When You Wish Upon
a Star,” sung by the character ‘Jimmy Cricket’ in Pinocchio, a
wooden puppet that wanted to become human.
Some of the song lyrics are:
“When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do”
In many places in the world people wish on a star reciting the
nursery rhyme:
Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.
Many of us make a wish before we blow out the candles on a
birthday cake, when we see a shooting star, when we toss a coin
into a wishing well, when we blow a ladybug off our hand, or
blow a dandelion “clock” and we even make wishes when
breaking a wishbone from a turkey or chicken breast.
Are these wishes really thought out and detailed enough for the
wish to come true? Does it matter?
Some say yes and some say no.
There seems to be a small debate on wishes, intentions, desires
and dreams and how to make them come true or to you. Many
believe, such as on the movie “What the Bleep do We Know” or
the book “Ask and It Is Given, that once you have a thought - a
wish or desire - it sends the vibration out to the Universe to
find a match and make the thought (wish, desire, belief, intention,
etc) come back to you in real life. It really comes to pass. Others
believe intentions (wish, desire, belief, intention, etc) need to be
worked on, creating affirmations, saying them, and working
towards them. I think they can be both correct.
When you wish upon a star, or any of the above, – see the wish
happening, smell it, taste it, walk in it. Believe it with all your
heart, without any doubt, you can achieve, no matter who or
where you are your dreams can come true.
I've had the honor of seeing Robert Allan, investment advisor
and author of The One Minute Millionaire, present on stage
twice. On one occasion he had the audience go through a
"seeing" exercise.
First we had to write down something we wanted in our life and
date it. Next we had to get detailed about what that wish would
look like, feel like, smell like. For instance, if you wanted a big
house on a hill, a personal chef, etc. What would your house
look like: the shape/style, color, and even the driveway up to
your house. Upon entering what type of flooring would you step
onto, what would you smell, hear, what colors and textures
would you see, where would you put your keys and what room
would you go to? Every detail - see it - believe it.
When you add the ‘seeing’ to your wish, as
if it has already started to come to you or as if it has happened
already, your wish has more 'weight' and becomes stronger.
Throughout the world there are many people that help make
wishes come true for others, such as:
-
Walt Disney brought us fun, fantasy, hopes, and dreams
through his stories, characters, theme parks and now cruise
ships.
-
Oprah Winfrey helps build and rebuild communities through
her Angel Network and her own generous donations and
surprises.
-
ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, along with the
design team and sponsors rebuild family’s lives and touch whole
communities.
-
Mother Theresa created Missionaries of Charity, whose
mission was to care for (in her own words) "the hungry, the
naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers, all those
people who feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for throughout
society, people that have become a burden to the society and
are shunned by everyone."
The common thread - the common theme - is making wishes and
dreams come true, building character, bringing communities
together and most importantly bringing awareness to us all that
no matter whom you are, or where you are, in life or the world,
with a strong intention your dreams can come true. It can seem
and is magical to some, including myself.
What are you wishing for?
