Today I Embrace What's
Important to Me
"Argue for
your limitations, and they are yours."
– Richard
Bach
What’s
really important to you? What have you wanted to do for
the past few years that you still haven’t done? Why
haven’t you done it yet? Are you waiting until you have
“enough” money or until you’ve cleared out that spare
room? Are you too content with where you are right now?
Do you rely on someone else too much? Are you
concentrating on helping someone else meet their goals
instead of working toward your own goals?
You
don’t have any goals? Then today’s the day to figure out
exactly what you want to do with your life. What debts
do you want to pay off? What unused items do you want to
get rid of? You know you want a better life. So don’t
settle for the best you’ve ever had. The best you’ve
ever had may only be a fraction of what you can have and
where you can be. And that’s what creating goals is all
about. It’s about embracing and prioritizing areas in
which you want more out of life.
How do
you figure out what your priorities and goals are? Ask
yourself this simple question: If you could do anything
you wanted to do - regardless of what anyone else might
think or say, regardless of where you might get the
money to fund your dream, or where you might learn the
skills you need to learn, and if you knew you could not
fail – what would you want to do?
How is
your clutter or debt keeping you from achieving these
goals? Eliminating debt payments frees up your money for
a dream vacation or for an early retirement. Getting rid
of clutter can free up space for a sideline business or
a favorite hobby. Here’s a simple way to figure out
what’s important to you. Imagine you’ve just been
offered – for free – a prime piece of real estate to use
anyway you like. The only catch is: it has no storage
space. What would you absolutely want to take with you?
Today,
embrace what’s important to you. Take out a blank piece
of paper and write down everything that comes to mind,
no matter how odd or ridiculous or farfetched or obscure
it seems. Don’t judge or filter what is important to
you. Just write it down. Look over the list and select
five things that you want more than the others right
now. Write each one at the top of a sheet of paper, and
then make a list of what steps you would need to take to
reach your goal. Put the steps in order and, each day,
look at your top priorities and select one step to take
on at least one of those goals. Whenever you want to buy
something or bring more items into your home, ask
yourself: “Is this bringing me closer to or further away
from what’s important to me?” If not, then politely say
“no” and move on. You’ll stay focused and effortlessly
begin to accomplish your goals. There are no limits
except the limits we set for ourselves.
